Every hardbanding alloy Arnco makes is designed to be casing-friendly. This means they include complex wear-resistant materials that are also non-abrasive to the casing. The oldest form of hardbanding involved tungsten carbide dropped into a simple metal wire, but this was abandoned due to the damage the tungsten carbides can do to the casing.
However, sometimes casing-friendliness isn’t important, such as for quick but abrasive drill-outs or open-hole drilling. In these cases, it’s best to use the most wear-resistant option available, which often involves tungsten carbide. For this reason, Arnco pioneered Arnco 500XT™, a reimagining of the original hardbanding with tungsten carbide in it. Arnco 500XT™ has small tungsten carbides inside the wire itself, surrounded by a proprietary nickel-alloy matrix. This allows it to last more than 3 times as long as casing-friendly hardbanding!
Key Benefits
- Best Longevity: Ensure your tools are protected as well as possible with extreme wear-resistance for open-hole drilling
- No Spalling, Chipping, or Flaking: Maintain consistency with long-lasting performance
- Reapplication without Removal: save time and simplify maintenance
- Simple yet Sophisticated: Return to the origin of hardbanding with some important advancements
Arnco 500XT™ is also the only hardfacing used for the protection of directional tools with Heatless Welding Solutions. When applied to mud motor bent housings, Arnco 500XT™ with HWS™ minimizes distortion, preventing a change to the angle. It is also the best choice for wear bands, doubling to quadrupling the life of unprotected pipe.
