Arnco’s hardbanding alloys are designed to be as compatible as possible, but this still requires the previous layer of hardbanding to be acceptable. Sometimes, old hardbanding must be removed, and when this happens the tubular must be rebuilt before new hardbanding can be applied. The best way to remove the old hardbanding is with the High Output Grinder, though this and any other method will leave some material missing that needs to be replaced.
To meet this important need, Arnco developed Arnco BUXT™, a Build-Up wire that is designed to be practically the same as the base material. When there is a need to repair a tool joint or tubing connection or drill collar, Arnco BUXT™ can be applied where the base material is missing to repair that tubular. After this, a quick grind with the HOG™ can leave the tubular in like-new condition, ready for more hardbanding. Using Arnco BUXT™ is like melting down the base material, turning it into a wire, and then welding back on the base material with that wire.
Key Benefits
- Consistent Properties: Ensure there is essentially no difference between the base material and the weld material
- Non-Cracking: Apply smooth, crack-free deposits for maximum reliability
- No Spalling, Chipping, or Flaking: Maintain consistency with long-lasting performance
- Reapplication-ready: Weld any hardbanding directly on top without issue
Arnco BUXT™ is also the only material that works for repair and rebuilding with Heatless Welding Solutions. It is used to rebuild tool joints, rebuild and extend tubing connections, repair slip cuts, and even apply wear bands. It has been proven to best mimic S-135 grade pipe, P110 grade tubing, and tool joint material as well as work seamlessly with the HWS™ technology.
