iCert Program

FAQs about iCert for Active Applicators

Arnco Technology certifies individual welding operators and hardbanding units (equipment) separately. To apply Arnco hardbanding products, an applicator company must have an Arnco Certified Operator applying the product using Arnco Certified Equipment. A company may have its personnel and equipment certified in one of three ways. Arnco has prepared a flow chart showing the steps of the certification process for each option.

A single company can have an unlimited number of Arnco Certified Operators and Arnco Certified Equipment. At minimum, a company must have one certified operator and one certified hardbanding unit. Any time Arnco hardbanding products are applied, the welding must be done by an Arnco Certified Operator using Arnco Certified Equipment.

Yes. There are three certification options. Each option has different costs associated with it. These are included in the flow chart that Arnco has prepared.

It depends on which option you choose. For witnessed and Operator Trainer certification options, certification for groups of operators and equipment can be performed in as little as 2 days, keeping in mind the time necessary to travel and arrange travel. For the remote certification option, testing can take 2-3 weeks without accounting for the shipping time.

If you have a small company with few operators and hardbanding units domestically, it is recommended to go with the witnessed certification or remote certification options. If you have a small company with few operators and hardbanding units internationally, it is recommended to go with the remote certification option.

If your company is very large and/or has many locations, it is probably recommended to go with the Operator Trainer certification option. This would allow you to gather your hardbanding managers from multiple locations or business units together for a 2-3 day training course. These Certified Operator Trainers would then be able to certify additional operators and equipment for that company. In this way, subjecting 5 operators to the Operator Trainer program could result in 100 operator certifications in 5 locations, or something similar for your company.

You only need to certify the operators and equipment you want to use to apply Arnco hardbanding products. You do not need to certify all of your operators and equipment, but the operators and hardbanding units used to apply Arnco products must be certified.

Operators are free to boast that they are Arnco Certified Operators. However, the Operator Certificates have the company’s name on them in addition to the operator’s name. They are not transferable to other companies.

As long as an operator is certified and the equipment he is using is certified, the combination does not matter. In other words, you do not have to certify every operator on every hardbanding unit. You just have to have a certified operator using certified equipment when he or she applies Arnco hardbanding products.

Arnco Technology has prepared a flow chart showing the steps of the recertification process. As long as you don’t let your current certificate expire beyond 6 months, your recertification will be simple and just involve some paperwork. There is no additional cost and no further witnessing or testing that needs to be done.
